The Academy of Engineering and Green Technology is proud to announce our partnership with the University of Connecticut, bringing the Early College Experience to our classrooms. Students participating in the ECE program will be dual enrolled at UConn and the Academy allowing them to take UConn courses and earn high school and college credit. Instructors teaching ECE classes at the Academy have been certified through the University of Connecticut and serve as adjunct faculty members. Motivated and responsible students will have the opportunity to earn up to two years of college credit while still in high school. Students successfully participating in the ECE program experience greater success in college and find the transition from high school to college much easier. Additionally, 93% of students who participated in the ECE program and applied to UConn received offers of acceptance.

Originally focusing on competitions and skill sets associated with upper grades, FIRST now offers challenges for children beginning at the age of six in kindergarten through twelfth grade. First has partnered with LEGO to create challenges for grades K through 8, while students in high school are offered two challenges; either a robotics or tech challenge.

Our award winning Hartford Public Schools/Academy of Engineering and Green Technology Birds of Prey Robotics Team 181 has accepted the challenge for the last 17 years. Our team has won numerous awards and went to the FIRST 2012 National Championships in St. Louis, Missouri after winning the Connecticut and Chesapeake Regionals. Our production lab located within the Academy has an extensive inventory of specialized tools allowing us to fabricate all of our robotic components on site. We are fortunate to have one of the best equipped labs in the country. We would also like to extend our thanks to our sponsors, United Technologies, Hartford Public Schools, and the Catalyst Powering Education Performance, or CPEP.
